The popular Anthem/VSB program protects nearly
4,000 lawyers, family members and staff. Traditional freedom-of-choice,
PPO, HMO and HSA options are available.
The Virginia State Bar (VSB) has an endorsed Anthem
Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance program. Insureds receive Value
Added Benefits, or extra benefits at no
extra cost, thanks to the VSB’s endorsement. These extra benefits
can be added to Anthem’s: BlueCare (traditional
freedom-of-choice) products, KeyCare (popular PPO) products, HMO
products and High Deductible Health Plans associated with Health
Savings Accounts.
This program begins with Anthem’s small group
products and then adds the Value Added Benefits. It is important to
note that individual Bar members are eligible for “solo”
coverage, or a group of 1, if the attorney does not have access to
other group health insurance. To be eligible for this coverage the firm
must be located in the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield service area.
Anthem’s service area is Virginia, excluding the city of Fairfax,
the town of Vienna and the area east of State Route 123.
For attorneys outside of Anthem’s service
area in northern Virginia, coverage from Care First and other insurance
companies is available.
Dental Insurance
The Virginia State Bar Members’ Insurance
Center can assist an individual or an entire firm with dental
insurance.
Medicare Supplements
Should anyone in your group be approaching age 65
sometime in the next year, please call us and we will assist in getting
these people a Medicare Supplement. Please note they won’t pay a
nickel more for the Medicare Supplement and receive our assistance than
if they were to contact Anthem directly. Also, we can see that a spouse
remains in the Anthem/VSB program if the attorney selects an Anthem
Medicare Supplement.
Coverage for Dependents After Age 23
Anthem and most insurance companies require
dependents to come off their parent’s group plan by the end of
the calendar year when they reach age 23. We can assist them in
securing other coverage for their dependents at no additional cost.
Bar members, spouses and employees may apply for
this competitive program. Rate reductions and premium holidays during
the past decade exemplify how the Bar goes to great lengths to offer
the best program possible.
This plan allows Virginia State Bar members, their
employees and their families to apply for term life insurance at group
rates. The coverage is fully insured by Union Security Insurance
Company (an Assurant Company) and each application will either be
accepted or declined by the insurance company. One can apply for a
little or a lot; the maximum one can apply for is $2 million. For
enrollment information and rates please see the brochure and
application. Discounts are available to non-smokers.
Please complete the application form and fax or
mail to us.

Group rates, own occupation definition and no rate
increases in recent years make this program exceptional.
This plan allows only Virginia State Bar members to
apply for disability income insurance. It offers the attorney the best
of both worlds. First, it uses an “own occupation”
definition of disability rather than “any occupation”.
Second, it has very competitive rates. For enrollment information and
rates, please see the brochure and application. This plan is fully
insured by Union Security Insurance Company (an Assurant Company).
Coverage may be applied for in limits up to $10,000 per month.
